what I mean when I say

art for daily life is:objects from your life arranged on a windowsill...
and found objects from nature...
or a dish drainer full of dishes that you use and love
pieces of firewood too beautiful to burn...
a stone on a brick on a wall...
a windowsill still life...

Which is to say, art doesn't have to be purchased from a gallery, framed and hung on the wall. Art is all around. Everyone can have art in their life every single day. Simply observe. Observe simplicity.

  2. Hi Barb - yes I agree, sometimes we forget to stop and see the beauty and art in simple things. This morning I was admiring the way the sun reflected off the Bank of America building and onto my living room wall - the Bank building has gold glass so it gave a warm honey glow to everything.

And yes, handmade soap certainly is an example of art in daily life and one of my favorite luxuries!

  3. My husband and I were just having this discussion. Art does not have to be over the top and kept in a gallery or framed by a professional. Its just how you see everyday life.

I really enjoyed the examples you gave, especially the wood:)

  4. How is it that you make a rack full of dishes look beautiful? Seriously...such a lovely thought, and one we all need to remind ourselves of often;)

  5. very true. that was a lovely post. beauty, like love, is something you choose to see not something which happens to you. and you have such grace in the way you see it.

  8. As a potter I am especially drawn to your photograph of the dish drain full of well loved dishes. This is a perfect example of art that is allowed to come in and truly be a part of our lives.

  17. Hello! I am one of Kristi's friends and every time we are over at their house I love all the pottery and Rick always tells me to read your blog so here I am.

At some point, I am thinking of having you make me some custom cat dishes for all my babies with some of your cute chicks and fishes. (I am a crazy cat lady like that.)
